Ok lots of folk are off on holidays at this time of year. Did you know that if you connect to a Wifi Access point all you data can be intercepted? Even if you use encryption and SSL? It called a man in the middle attack and is not a bug its just that WiFi was based on the premise that you trust the operator of the WiFi Access point! Yeah like I trust Starbucks or that new Cafe across the Street?
Ok so this is the deal ProXPN offer excellent Paid and Free VPN. The Free Service is not a feature rich as the Paid for services (it's cheap < five USD per month so worth considering as you should use a VPN on ANY PUBLIC WIFI ACCESS POINT not juest when you travel!)

- Sign up for a Free ProXPN account its the BASIC account you want.
- Check you mail and activate you account
- Now download the client for Windows, Mac as required and enter your username and password. Then sign in!
- After a few seconds you should be connected. Fire up a browsers and at the Google.COM search page enter "Whats my IP" this should now be a new IP address in the USA
- Disconnect when you are done.
- The files generated in this setup can be used to set up Android Phones and Tablets quickly see below
If you are on Android you need to
- Grab the "Open VPN for Andriod" from the play store its free no ads and open source
- Copy your config file from you PC to the root of your SD Card (you will have this location even if you phone / tablet does not take SD cards!) On a PC this would be C:\PROGRAM FILES\PROXPN\CONFIG copy the directory and all its contents
- Open the OPEN VPN for Andriod client
- Click the folder ICON (Location varies)
- Select the config folder and its contents (the single file in the folder) and select import
- A PROXPN setting will appear as a new VPN
- Click the settings part of the PROXPN VPN if you click the PROXPN part it will connect just cancel the connection and click the settings icon on the right of the PROXPN entry.
- Under the BASIC section
- Enter a Server IP address of 107.6.100.3 and a Port number of 443 (TCP)
- Enter your VPN Username and Password or leave blank if you want to complete these each time you connect (more secure).
- There is no SAVE button just press BACK the changes are saved.
- Click on the PROXPN VPN entyry (left side) and you should be connected.
