I've had a lot of questions about what screen to get as lots are on offer.
I own all of the above technologies...and more.
For movies and colour reproduction, VA is a great option as the blacks are very deep. IPS isn't close for black reproduction at best is does a dark grey. Of course the higher end IPS unit do produce a darker shade of grey, but not as good as the VA panels.
Why does the black matter? It makes the other colours more vibrant. Colour is not something that you measure with a meter (A colourimeter does not measure colour) Colour is an artifact added by the human visual system.
Most TV manufacturers now use VA panels in their high end TVs, for the better blacks and more vibrant colour.
For desktop work - text reproduction, office work, IPS wins.
TN is great if you just want the fastest response time (gaming), though these days you can buy VA panels with fast response times and you get the best colour reproduction.
For colour reproduction, plasma, which I also own, beats everything - Even OLED which are in their infancy.
If you move to IPS don't expect it to blow mind because you may not notice the difference if coming from a cheaper TN. With IPS you will see better viewing angles:IPS has the best viewing angles.
If you are on a budget for general home computer use VA is worth considering. For work (including working from home) if you can afford it grab an IPS display.
TN is fast and cheap - ideal for gaming or those on a budget.
Also remember that even screen from the SAME brand can come from different manufactures and you cannot compare units as the reflector, filters and other parts make a huge difference in picture quality.
Also image quality, like sound quality is subjective!
